BAD SEA OVER MY HEAD

Indie-pop duo Bad Sea are back with double A-side single ‘Over My Head’, a swirling piano-led folksy number that perfectly compliments partnered track ‘Tell Me (What I Mean)’. Taking cues from Angel Olsen, Ciara Thompson and Allan Farrell play up to the less-is-more rule in the simple arrangement on sparse keys and melodious vocals. According to Thompson, this is "a song about exaggerating facts/straight up lying to someone when you first meet them because you think they’re hot and want the ride, but then it blossoms into something of value.” While the line “I’m in over my head” directly clues the listener up to this feeling, it’s also the quieter, underlying vocals that reimagine a running stream of consciousness in the awkward first date situation. This is a more than appropriate subject matter for a band who formed after meeting on a dating app, their own value found in these classic songwriting structures with realistic views on romance. - HT
